Waders with Aldo: 52 Southern African waders

Let’s crack the waders together!

To book, click the high-lighted date on the calendar below, and you will receive a confirmation letter with payment details.

This 2-session course familiarises you with the 52 species of waders you are most likely to encounter in Southern Africa. It includes sandpipers, snipes, plovers, lapwings, oystercathers, stilt, avocet, coursers and thick-knees. All resident species and regular migrants to southern Africa are included. Also included are the most frequently recorded rarities compared to similar common species.

Waders with Aldo uses the protocols and techniques established in other Birding with Aldo courses: 2 step-approach using GISS (jizz); Top Bottom and Middle and with a new technique for remembering flight patterns. The course is interactive: we use polls, chat room and discussion in comparative and repetitive presentations to embed species characters.

The course comprises two 75–90-minute sessions (Monday and Wednesday). You will receive recording links valid for seven days after each session, and if you miss a session, you can view this recording. You receive low-res pdfs of the sessions as permanent  reference material.

Session 1: Introduction, techniques, plovers, lapwings, thick-knees, oystercatchers, avocet, stilt and pratincoles

Session 2: Sandpipers, snipes and coursers

Course price: The cost for both sessions is R250 for one person and R350 for 2 or more. For pensioners the cost is R200 for one person and R300 for 2 or more.
