The larks pose some of the most challenging birding in southern Africa. This course deals with all the southern African species in these groups. Learn to distinguish the sub-groups of larks using GISS (jizz) and then work though the individual species in comparative presentations. Understand juvenile and geographical variation. For some species I list best localities. We work in small interactive groups.

Larks with Aldo uses the protocols and techniques established in other Birding with Aldo courses including GISS, Top Bottom and Middle and polls, chat room and discussion in comparative and repetitive presentations to embed species characters.

The course comprises two 75–90-minute sessions. You will receive recording links after each session which you can view for seven days. So, if you miss a session, you can view this recording. You will be sent low-res pdfs of the course sessions as permanent reference material.

Session 1: Introduction, techniques, taxonomy, larks versus pipits, 15 larks

Session 2: 16 larks and revision

Course price: The cost for both sessions is R250 for one person and R350 for 2 or more. For pensioners the cost is R200 for one person and R300 for 2 or more.
