Canaries, Chats & allied species

Find out how to sort out look-alike canaries, confusing chats and allied species!

These are challenging groups – this 2-session course familiarises you with 21 species of canaries, seedeaters, siskins and buntings in the 1st session and 19 species of chats, wheatears and look-alike species in the 2nd session. All resident species, regular migrants to southern Africa and the most frequently recorded rarities are explained.

Canaries, chats and allied species uses the protocols and techniques established in other Birding with Aldo courses: 2 step-approach using GISS (jizz) and Top Bottom and Middle. The course is interactive: we use polls, chat room and discussion in comparative and repetitive presentations to embed species characters.

The course comprises two 90-minute sessions (Monday and Wednesday). You will receive recording links valid for 7 days after each session. If you miss a session, you can view this recording. You receive low-res pdfs as permanent reference material at the end of the course.

Session 1: Canaries, seedeaters, siskins and buntings.
Session 2: Chats, wheatears, scrub-robins and look-alike species.

Course price: The cost for both sessions is R250 for one person and R350 for 2 or more. For pensioners the cost is R200 for one person and R300 for 2 or more.
